i just read a thread on a fellow member who cannot keep caulastrea alive- a coral which i have found incredibly easy. however i myself have never had any luck with any brain or fungia, yet my caulastrea, euphilia and turbinarians are doing fine.
similary my grandfather could never keep euphilias alive but had extreme success with sun corals. is there a knack to certain species of coral as i am currently upgrading to a cube bb and would like to try fungias and brains again. i thought it may be interesting for members to post what they have had success with and have not in the same tank.

For all of the horror stories that come out about problem corals such as gonioporas or elegance corals there are numerous people on this forum that continue to have success with the very same corals. I have what are described as moderate difficulty corals such as turbinaria and pipe organ that are thriving and growing. At the same time, my shrooms look like crap?? Perhaps the most confounding aspect of this hobby is that exceptions are almost the rule.

I would say that, since it's a new tank, some things will be different and go ahead and try a brain and a fungia.
