The problem with the "where to buy" thread

Just a note to those who aren't local to Nashville; just because a place has something you're looking for doesn't mean you actually want to go there. I headed off to Plastic Supply in Nashville to get some weld-on, just following the GPS, and ended up turning around a few blocks from the store. Why? Because I have a pretty strong aversion to being in neighborhoods overrun by drug dealers and prostitutes, especially at 11am and with my wife and kid in the car. I knew when I turned onto Lafayette that this wasn't where I wanted to be, but I held out hope that it would get better (it didn't).

Anyway, after that I just drove over to Advanced Plastics, where I got everything I needed. So I guess what I'm saying is if you're shopping somewhere unfamiliar, trust your instincts.

Yeah it's always good to be aware of your Surroundings. That's 1 of the first things you learn in life. You were still in the nice part of the hood but with today's weather I honestly don't believe the prostitutes were out. Maybe a metro police sting. I work in the hood, no one was out today.

not really the hood. Homeless shelter is over there. probably the reason for the "unsavory looking" people. and yeah. drug dealers don't come out in the snow, nor do hookers. Probably just homeless people.

LOL... First, I know what homeless looks like. There was a homeless guy in the middle of Lewis street, about a block in between the prostitutes and the drug dealers. :)

Second, I'm not talking about do-it-for-the-rent type girls here, I'm talking about crackheads/junkies. I don't think drug withdrawals take snow days.

Finally, imagine this scenario: A car comes to a stop in the middle of the street, and a guy walks over and leans in talking to them. After about 20 seconds, the car drives away and makes a quick left turn. The guy in the street slips something in his pocket and walks back over to the curb. What do you think went down? I know, it could just be someone asking directions, but I'd have to be really, really, REALLY lost to ask that guy for directions. Maybe I just watch too much TV, but I feel like I've seen that play out on Intervention or COPS about 1,000 times. :lolspin:

I don't know if that area qualifies as "the hood" or not, but most people I know would not drive through there at night with their windows rolled down. I thought either way it was an experience and a lesson worth sharing that someone on here suggesting a place to get something is no guarantee that you won't empty your bowels into your pants when you see the neighborhood it's in. YMMV.

The biggest problem was someone had to go and get it closed. :(

Yeah I agree not having recent posts there is a bummer as a lot can change in 2 1/2 years, especially with the economy being what it is today.

That's just everyday life over there. Regardless everywhere I go my little holstered buddy goes with me. I work over in that area & I live in Mt. Juliet & seriously today was a quite day. If you wanna see something interesting head that way on a sunny summer day. When the crackheads r in full swing.
