The REAL problem for bad things

Over the last, say 5-6yrs. I seen more people talk about Nitrates. Is this becuse we are all getting too high tech? Maybe just over feeding? I remember when 2 Marineland 400 filters on the back of a 75 made a great tank. Why here lately all this talk about Nitrates? What is going wrong and where.

I remember when green hair alga was very hard to find and when you got it was the dooms day for your tank. Now it seems like every one has gotton it. Why the out break?
Though I would ask in here due to all the old school reefers in here.

Part of the reason for slightly more nitrate discussions is that we now have more easy and well established ways to reduce nitrate than there were prior to that time. First sulfur denitrators, which seemed to work better than the old carbon denitrators, and then organic carbon dosing (soluble and pellets) which make it fairly easy to reduce nitrate.

I'm don't detect any more of an algae problem in various discussions than in the past. :)
