The Reef Royal 220

is it me or is the tank not sitting on the stand correctly. looks like the bottom bracing is outside the stand.

It can look like it but I am pretty sure the tank is seated where it should be, it sits flush at the back, because that`s where the drain holes was from fabric. It´s also a steelframe all around under in the cabinet.

So as promised.. pictures. Sorry for being lazy [emoji41].

I'm having some bad case of browning of corals, due to starvation and or moving from a established tank to mine. I'm working my way back though

Man, posting with tapatalk makes my pictures look stupid big.. Is the only way to get right size using photo bucket ?

Ok guys, I need some help. Let me shed some light on it, I have been using AF probiotic salt since the start of this tank, 11 of March it started cycling.
I have been using Np Pro and Pro bio S for no3/po4 reduction (ULNS) system.. I thought that WC 10% every other week would be sufficient. I changed to every week for the past month. I feed anywhere from 2-4 times a day with frozen, nori/flakes or pellets.. I mix it up.

Yet my No3 won't budge and is constant on 25ppm with Salifert. And my Po4 is currently at 0.21 Hanna Checker and 0.15-20 ppm with Nyos Reefer kit.

I can slow down my feeding I guess.
I use RODI water - reads at 0 TDS, I will test that water for No3/Po4
I usually clean out my collection cup once a week. Running a RE Double Cone 200 so it should be suited for the tank, and the gunk it takes out makes me think its working good. Maybe can be tweaked for better performance.

I have a decent CUC, hermits, trochus/nassarius snails.. few sand sifting starfish.
Fishstock atm is 16 or 17..

So give me some ideas of what I might be doing wrong cause I can't see em clearly.

Thx

Here`s my fishlist.

3 x Tangs

Blue Tang
Yellow Tang
Clown Tang

2 x Clownfish

Amphiprion ocellaris

3 x Wrasse`s

Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse
Exquisite Fairy Wrasse
Yellow Wrasse

7 x Chromis Viridis

1 x Flame Angelfish

1 x Starry Blenny

I think that your tank is only 3 months old and you have 16 fish and you feed 4 times a day.
I think thats the issue right there..
The system is not fully matured.
I think you should cut your feeding to as little as is required to keep the fish from getting really skinny..
Seems to me that it's just too much too soon..
if you could tweak the skimmer so that your are cleaning it every two days, that'd help as well..

I completely agree, but it seems more logical when someone else tells it. I'll cut down the feeding and maybe do a WC every Monday and Friday for now, or would that be to much ?

I don't really think there's such thing as too many waterchanges. But I'm not sure it'll do a ton for dropping nutrients.. wont hurt though, that's for sure.

Been quiet for a while, but things have been going good lately with nutrients at a low. Got my new toy from Pax Bellum this week so now I only need some chaeto.

I'll be taking ROWA and vodkadosing of my maintenance schedule and let macroalgae do it's work..

Ooooooh aaaaaaah! That's a beaut!!

Oh yeah, I´ve got a couple of RE media reactors and I think they are pretty sweet. But this piece is outta this world. So kudos to Tristan and the Pax Bellum team, they make awesome equipment! :D

@reefmutt, I see u run 4 gyre´s. Which model u got? U got any noise issues?
I got 1 xf250 new model, and run it on the LTC program, from 20-60%. And the ramp up and down is quite loud. Been running the pump for a couple of months now and got another one coming in the mail. But kinda makes me wonder why I sold my QD pumps...

The gyre is the loudest equipment on the tank..:headwallblue:

I have 2x 150, 1 x 130 and a 230.
I don't hear the 150s. They are alternating every minute on a hydor wave controller. They are a couple years old now.
THe 130 and 230 are hooked up to a new controller on random. Running between 30% and 90% I hear them slightly but not nearly as much as I did for the first 4 ish months. They get much quieter with time. I got the 230 last Christmas. The random mode makes the motor tone change frequently and you hear that a bit but again, not nearly as much as I did when the 230 was new.
They have been very low maintenance, reasonably trouble free pumps with excellent customer support around here. I am really happy and I have never heard an MP make less noise than the gyres.

Update! I got my new gyre hooked up on the tank now for about 3 weeks. 2x xf 250 running at 30-40% each. The noise a lot less then before so I'm pleased with that[emoji108] And the flow is goooood.

Also been running my ARID N 24 for one week on the spot, and I gotta say the chaeto growth in this thing is awesome. My no3/po4 prior to Arid was 25ppm and 0.15ppm.

Gonna do new test's today and see if anything has changed. 🤞

I might have to up the flow trough the reactor, seeing some detritus settling further up the chamber. And it's greener chaeto down below.

I've been wondering about flow rate through a cheato reactor and how it would effect nutrient consumption..
I wonder if it has any..
Assuming cheato has a constant rate of photosynthesis and you have not completely stripped the effluent water of all nutrients, does flow really matter?
If you have a given nitrate level going into the reactor at a certain flow rate and the cheato's consumption rate is constant (I can only assume it is) if you double the flow rate, you have effectively reduce contact time by half.. wouldn't this reduce n consumption by half and thus have no effect on overall consumption?
