Hey all
i've been on this board for a little over a year now and am proud to say that my dad and i are finally starting a bigger tank. i've always wanted to do a big tank, but a 50g to most people is small. however, when you've had a 10g for about a year, 50 gallons is HUGE!
anyways. this project will be slow(ish), but hopefully my tank will take off. before i begin i'd like to thank alot of people on this board who have answered ALOT of questions. and i'd also like to thank people like JeffBrig, Weatherson, and bheron for tank inspiration
now, here is the plan. my dad and i plan on having the tank, which is a 50g(36x18x20") against one of the walls in our family room area. behind the room is a small closet area, which will be the equipment room. now the room won't be huge, but it's still a room. we plan on going Barebottom( don't worry, i've read alot of threads) and will be keeping mostly if not completely SPS corals, with the few exceptions of certain LPS favorites. i have been planning a 75g for the past 6 months, but the tank came along, and it was quite a deal, so my dad and i decided to go with that.
now, for the filtration, the only thing i'm sure of is a octopus NW 110 protein skimmer. we might also use a phosban reactor.
the tank which i will use for a sump is a 55g i will be getting from my friend. the return pump will probably be a mag 7.
here is a pic of the tank
now for lighting, we just got our order today. it is a 6x39 watt T5 retro with giesemann bulbs and individual icecap SLR reflectors. it may be too much light, but if it is, we can just raise the light, or take some of it off and use as a frag tank light.
here's the lighting
keep tuned, as there is more to come.
and again, thank you RC staff, and many others who have answered questions.
P.S. i've just gotten my dad a reefcentral acount, so he will eventually get into the swing of this and be apart of the thread.
