The Sand Process

Can someone please tell me the process for introducing dry sand to my tank. I have been cycled for about a month now, but decided i wanted a sand bottom. Please share :headwally:

So I don't need to clean it or anything?

If it's the sand that has "live" bacteria then you don't rinse. If it's regular ol sand then rinse thoroughly to reduce the dusty sand storm that will happen in your tank.

Since your system is up and running I would only add a small amount of sand each day to minimize the shock to your system. Slow and steady.

I rinse either way, dump the sand into a bucket and add RODI (or saltwater if you want to try to keep it "live") and swish around then dump off the cloudy water add more and repeat until clean. otherwise you have a cloudy tank for a few hours/days.

I agree with above, add a little at a time to hold off a mini cycle.

Do you have anything in the tank other than rock?

I would use dry sand and save a few bucks. When I add more sand to my tank I use the funnel and pvc method. If you have critters in the tank try to be careful not to bury any. Also, even though you rinse the sand well you will probably still have some cloudy water for a few days. Good luck just my 2 cents
