The Silence and the new tank

Wow, my house is so quiet! No humming or water sounds at all. It's really wierd after 3 yrs of listening to pumps, skimmers, overflows and sump.

So I bought a new cube . It's my "nano". Since I went 1/10th the size of my old tank, that's what I call it. I'm setting it up now. Assembly wasnt bad though the template for the door hinges was wrong! That took me a while. There were some gaps between some of the boards/connections ~ typical China type thing you get with any cabinet they make. I love the "plug and play" idea. I just havent got to play yet - making new water after dumping 350g salt and 40g ro/di into my back yard! I dont expect any noise from this tank, it has two powerheads for returns and one for the skimmer. More later.

There goes your lawn! With no grass to mow and a smaller reef tank your chores are looking better. Good luck with the new tank.

I wouldn't mind doing the same thing. A cube for zoos and ricordia.

Wow that tank looks amazing please keep us updated and definatly some pictures to let us know how its going. I can't find a price on these things. Any chance you could PM me for what you got it for? Did you get the combo?

I think you can walk into a store here locally and buy them for around 700, but you gotta consider all the goodies thats in this thing. It has just about everything you can think of(including room to attach a custom chiller!)
Ive had the chance to get a good look at them and they are unbelievble. They are so much better then any other nano on the market its not even funny.
Id love to see some pics of the setup once you get it up and running.

They are probably cheaper than a DIY 300G setup, anyway. ;)

I find myself looking at my two 75G tanks and wondering if I can get rid of one of them and get something like this instead. Or perhaps something a little smaller for my office...

My wife has come to enjoy power outages because the house gets so quiet for a little while. It is amazing what you can here when the tanks go down. And I don't think mine are all that noisy.

EDIT: Here is a link to the tank with price included:

How did I miss that you were getting rid of the 300? I saw the thread where Matt was thnking people for helping move it, but didn't know you were getting rid of it before that. Good luck with the new one. I almost had the wife talked into a 3-400 gallon so I wouldn;t have to move my two tanks (just the livestock). She said she liked haveing two separate tanks:rolleyes:. And she'd just taken her first sip of margaritta:D.

I know about the noise. When I got the MR2 and plugged in the skimmer pump (PCX-55), the sound levels in the room quadrupled. Then when the chiller would kick on (back when it worked...), you really had to turn the TV up. I'm looking to plumb everything into a room behind the tanks when we move... It's nice when I don't have the energy to fill the top off reservoirs (almost a daily project with only 10 gallons of reservoir) and have to turn off the skimmer for a little while.

When you get the tank up... You must post pics...

Randy,

10-15 more gallons of water... 100gpd is on the job but I dont have any float switch things so I can only run my ro'di while I'm home. Everything is transferred into the cube now so I'm committed to staying awake until I make this much more SW.

I like that thing you did with the signs.

Gary, thankfully I didn't have to post to sell it, which would have turned out to be a dreaded part-out thing.

LOL Yeah... That was really the only reason I posted anything... I thought that pic was hilarious...

Looking forward to seeing the new cube Don:)
I set up a little 29 with stuff I had laying around for rics and zoas myself.

It's not picture worthy yet. Someone said "Aquascaping is an art and I'm no artist", well that's my skituation. Actually it's just this big mushroom rock that I need to get rid of (4sale: 12x5" covered rock $20).

Also, the fans on the hood are not silent. Will be hunting for better ones. Any suggestions?

How loud are they??? The ones on my BioCube took a while to "wear in"... They're a lot more quiet now...

they sound like almost equal to a microwave oven (my 1990 microwave). I guess I'll wait till they get some dust on them like yours:D

It was a good month and a half or so before they stopped making noise... I pitched a fit with Central Aquatics... And by the time I got the replacement fans, mine weren't making noise anymore... lol :D

There are some quieter fans out there, but one thing you can do is to ensure that the ones you have are isolated as much as possible from the hood -- otherwise the entire hood becomes a resonant chamber. I gasket between the housing and fan might help. And little rubber or spong o-rings around each screw on the nut side if they go all the way through the fan may help, too. I packaged deal like this should have already been designed with something like that, though.

OK, the obligitory pics are here.

Anyone want the mushroom rock for $20?

I really like this tank. My clams like it too. They already secured to the rocks and their color looks better than I've seen in a while. The one think I dont like is only one timer for the lights so when the main lights go out the moon light comes on and stays on all night unless you manually turn it off, then you gotta manually turn it back on the next day. And either I'm getting used to it or the fans are quieter.

Awesome Don!!!!!! Glad I didn't kill your clams cutting their feet... :) Geeze, thats the smallest looking 30g I think I've seen though... Must be your big rocks... ;) Or the relativity to your past tank... But I don't see any aips... So thats a great start!!!!! What's the wifey think about the additional space??? Oh, and did you get that black gunk out of the carpet and the holes in the wall patched???
