I'm not sure if my apartment looks like a fish store, or an disaster zone. I guess a little bit of both.
Trying to build a 90 G setup in a 675 sq. ft apartment is a challenge.... so far, I've been successful. I don't think I've gotten caught yet. :bum:
there's LR curing in my kitchen, a QT tank in my bedroom, the existing tank in the living room, the 90 is sitting on the floor next to it, the bathroom has been my woodshop, seems to be working out fine.
I built the stand frame today, the most ambitious project so far.... actually used a mitre saw in my apartment, I thought for sure I'd get busted. The neighbors must not have been home.
Here's the stand frame....
The whole thing is 2x4s w/ 1/2" plywood top and the sump floor will be the same. I need to get the jigsaw out and cut the corners out of the sump floor before I can put it in, also need to drill the holes for the overflow bulkheads. (if anyone has a paper template for a standard AGA megaflow and can post it, that would be awesome).
Corners are doubled up and overlapped with the joints of the box frames... the effective 6x6 corners. The middle one goes top to bottom, the other two fit between the box frames. I went with 38" tall so I could look straight at the tank while standing up. It also leaves the ability to put it behind the back of the couch if I decide to. the stand I have now stinks because I have to lean over to look at it, and it bugs me. I'll just have to get a step stool to reach in and clean it.
I'm going to side it with something decient, depends what I can find at Home Depot when I go. Either some sanded finish plywood, or cabinet siding... something to that effect. I'll probably stain it black so it matches the rest of my stuff, right now I just painted it with exterior paint to keep the water out. It probably needs a 2nd coat.
Here's the sump...
Just a standard AGA 30G, I had the glass shop cut me some sheets, which turned out to be a touch too wide so I wound up with diagonal baffles, it seems to work just the same anyways.... I've water tested it a couple times and the bubble traps seem to work. Holds about 20G when full. 3 compartments.... skimmer, return, fuge. The feed for it has a ball valve for the fuge so I can dribble water into it.
And the parts pile
The tank I picked up off someone who was moving, I'm using a OceanRunner 3500 for the return, ASM G3, a Seio 820 and a couple MaxiJets, I've got about 95 lbs of LR (some Tonga Branch, Some I don't know where its from and some Melanesia)... trying to keep the tank open. I learned from my current tank that buying corals means more live rock. Lighting is a PFO 2x175 MH w/ 2x96 PC actinics. Should be a pretty decient all around setup.
