There's GOT to be a better way....

Looking for some solutions here.

This lid has hit my head (and it is not lite) for the last time. Anyone out there with a similar hex lid (measures 30" across)? I've seen some folks use lifttgates (like used on hatchbacks and even some hoods of cars). I'm not sure the unique shape would function properly without going out, buying it and trying.

What suggestions do you have for me in opening and keeping it open when I'm up there. My head and I thank you in advance!

Yes actually a simple solution. There is cabinet hardware that is specifically made for toy chests and blanket chests, the toy chest ones are made so that a child cannot be trapped or hit on head when pulling toys out of chest. You could also use gas pistons available in most auto parts stores, these are used for cap tailgate doors and hatchback etc etc. just find one that would fit your hood weight range

That's what I was thinking, I just wasn't sure (with the hex shape) if they would be "working against each other" once you secured them. Perhaps I'm over thinking the whole thing.

It would need to be mounted perpendicular to the hinges so you will likely need a couple of blocks inside the stand for it to mount on.

A hook in the ceiling and a hook on the lid, a bit of plastic chain like for plants too?

No falling then, unless the ceiling gives way.. :)
