Thermometer Break

I just had a glass thermometer break in one of my mixing barrels. I know I need to clean it up, but will the freshly made salt water be ok, or should I just chuck it? I see a bunch of those little metal balls in the bottom of my barrel. I did grab all the broken glass, it's just the little metal balls that have me worried.

I wouldnt risk it for peace of mind at the least. I would drive my self crazy over the next few days waiting for something to happen

Thats kind of what I was thinking, just hate to waste 50G of salt water.

A magnet will pull them out.

The little metal balls may be mercury. Mercury is a liquid so try using an eye-dropper to remove from the water.

The little steel balls are two weigh the thermometer down.

Pulled them out with a magnet, but I did dump the water anyways. It had some of that red dye(no idea what it actually is) they put in the bottom where the balls are, and who knows what that is.

+1. Guess I'm old school (focus on old). Mercury isn't used much in thermometers any more.

I broke one in my tank years ago and I'm still finding little rusty balls every once in awhile
