would these 4 Tangs be ok all together in my 180 gal.

was going make a order from http://www.liveaquaria.com once they are all in stock. unless you know of someone cheaper that gives a guarantee.

smalls-
Purple Tang
Powder Blue
Chevron

already have a 2to3 inch yellow tang. (lower left in photo)

for some reason in the photo the tank look real narrow, its actually 18" wide-

Cool rock work, but personally I think 4 tangs would need more swimming room. (not that I don't think 180 gallons is enough, but that's a lot of rock and doesn't look like a lot of open space.)

Tank looks tall too, what are the demension looks like a 150 6'X18"X29", but anyway that yellow will beat up on the tangs a little once introduce may cause stress. But you'll be okay for a little while then they will get too big.

If anything, be prepared to rework the rockwork to throw of the yellow tangs territory... that might prevent some aggression.

In my opinion, it looks fine, but as others have said, the yellow tang has his own territory, and you may need to move the rock around to get him to calm down.

If possible, remove the YT to a QT or someplace for a few days, then introduce all your tangs simultaneously. I've done this successfully with a Purple, Kole, and a Sailfin tang in a 200g setup.

I've only had it setup like this for about a week or so.

I haven't really noticed him to stay in one place. I have a lot of water flow, kinda swims/drifts everywhere.

I never noticed any aggression with him so I think he might behave. If not I guess I'll get rid of him.

affan get any new bags of salt lately, ha? I have a 40gal sump/refuge below that I can put him for a while. Couple days you say?

I think I might chance it as I mentioned before he's been really nice to my other fish. Him and my foxface (look pretty identical) are constantly swim side-by-side all the way around the tank. Might be a different story though with other tangs right?

did u add any fish after the yellow? and if so how did it act? you might be safe if you add all those tangs at once the yellow will have a hard time just going after one and i think maybe just add two more tangs but its your tank.. i've got a hard time for wanting 4 in my 280g.

I think you will be fine, but go into it knowing a few things:

1) If you plan on having corals, having many big tangs will mean more food which makes it harder to keep nutrients under control.
2) Tangs can be nasty and aggressive, and the choice to house these fish will likely affect all other fish choices.

LOL He said tank looks tall too. Not that its too tall. Its cool you posted asking about your fish and decision making before you stock them. I don't know much about tangs, but good luck with your tank. I think it looks really nice.

Thanks for clearing that up. he mention something about how the tank looks as far as the width goes and I was just stating that it looks tall also like a 150gal. But it's cool! Sad that a person could misread something so badly and get an attitude about it.:)

No, grandpa's been staying at home lately ;) As for the tangs, I think you will be okay, but you won't know until you try it. Put the yellow in QT for a couple of days at least, or refugium in your case. Like I said, I have 3 tangs that I introduced all at the same time, and they're pretty good friends.

thanks, will let you know how I make out.

hey eidillitih, sorry about that I'm a dumb, dumb! long day at work!

It depends on teh fish. I've had a Yellow for a year and it's been in my big tank for 4 months. The other day I introduced a Powder Blue and things are fine. Occasionally the Yellow will charge the PBT or swim alongside him and try and bump him off course but nothing serious. The Yellow is the largest fish in the tank and he's the boss and just needs to make sure the new arrival knows this. It's all about establishing a pecking order. Two months ago I introduced a Flame Angel and a juvie Emperor and the Yellow didn't flinch. Tangs usually only have issues with other tangs or similarly sized fish.

The Purple might and probably will be a problem. Being both Zebrasoma species I forsee some fighting there but your Yellow is still pretty small. Some Yellows can be more aggressive than others so like all fish - it depends on the fish. Also by introducing three at the same time helps as the Yellow might spread its aggression over 2 or 3 but then again it might not be aggressive at all. Removing the Yellow is an option if you can catch it but if I was you I probably wouldn't.

What I would do is quarantine the 3 tangs for 6 weeks to make sure they are super healthy - healthy enough to fight off any stress problems that aggression can cause (Ich, loss of apetite). If you plan on getting the fish and putting them straight in you really are running the gauntlet.

Yes, do let us know how it goes. By the way, I am in love with your rock work. Any more pictures, maybe?

thanks for your time and info, will definitely consider!!

affan.. Once I get a chance I'm going to take some pics with a better camera (Canon 20D). Should turn out really good.

This picture here is what really inspired me to re-due my auqascaping, pretty soon I'll be introducing corals, only thing I have now is a Christmas Tree Worm rock-
