An update, sort of

An update, sort of

All,

I have not updated this thread in a while because I have not been happy with the state of my system. Between fighting algae and mysterious coral deaths the tank has not been happy so I have not been happy. At this point I think I have a pest that is attacking some corals but not all. Some of my Acropora are fine but I have lost others. A couple of Montipora are ok but I have or am losing others. Any way, here is a photo of what I think is a Slimer that I am slowly losing. Any thoughts on what might be the culprit would be appreciated.

Thanks for replying Rik.

Snails, some hermit crabs, 3 halloween urchins, snails and maybe some emerald crabs.

Have your parameters been stable? No alk swings

Yes, ALK has been stable. CA has been as low at 385 over the last 4 months but nothing overnight and has been in 425-450 range for a month.

This is why I am wondering about some sort of pest that attacks both Acropora and Montipora but not all.

Wish I had an answer but I'd be wary of crabs. If you take red cellophane and put over the end of a flashlight you can shine it in tank in middle of night when lights are off and see if you see anything. The red light wont be seen by critters in tank

Pest ID???

Pest ID???

Something is attacking my A. florida. Is there a pest in this photograph (see circles).

Thanks.

Commensalism Halloween Urchin and Clavularia sp.

One of my Halloween Urchins (Tripneustes gratilla) picked up some rubble with Clavularia sp. attached to it. The urchin is adding to it's disguise. The Clavularia sp. unharmed.
