my new tank a friend of mine is building 120x48x28 ,will 3/4 INCH thickness be ok. thanks

Need more info.
What type of tank? (reef or F/O)
Lighting?
Waterflow

All of the parameters above will effect what thickness the tank will need to be but as it stands right now 3/4" will not be enough. 1" at the minimum with 3/4" top and bottom but 1" all around is optimal. If it is going to be a reef tank with M/H's then 1.25" will be needed in order to avoid excess crazing and bowing over time. As the tank bows it will create deflection thus changing the clarity of the tank causing a magnified appearance when viewing a certain angles.

120" long.. you will find some people that will make it out of 3/4".. but 1" would be best at that length...

Yeah, there are also guys out there who would build it out of 1/2" just to sell a tank :D
The way I look at it is if you're going to take on the endeavor of a large system then the tank should be where most of the money is spent given that it is going to be holding all of the water, fish , rock, coral, etc for many years to come. If a person has to skimp on the costs of the tank then they should go with a size that fits their budget better and still allows them to build the tank at the appropriate specifications.
I have seen huge under built tanks fail and you not only lose tens of thousands of dollars from the system failing but you also can incur similar costs in home repair from the water damage it causes.

thanks all

thanks all

it will be an inwall ,the front panel will be low iron

the tank will be reef ,soft corals mainly, and fish, inverts

lighting will be 3 400mh and t5 actnic

water flow will be closed loop will be trying to get something like 30x turnover in display

the reason i ask is a friend of mine that owns the only fish store with in 500 miles of my town (i live in mx.)will be building it ,it would be to difficult to buy it in the states and ship it here,
he has built many smaller tanks and sumps in the past,he just wasnt sure on the thickness on such a large tank,

I am romodeling my house as we speak so i will take advantage and get this project going ,

so im thinking ,now 1 inch all around
