got any argument to stop me?

the only thing my sand bed has ever done for me (that i can see anyways), is get stirred up so that all of my creatures are unhappy...and that sand gets NASTY!

why not go bare? i like the look of it...and it will be much cleaner, and i wont have to worry about giant worms or ANYTHING else for that matter growing without my knowledge in my sandbed...

any reason why i REALLY should have a sand bed?

i believe they are beneficial on larger tanks, if you have a DSB, but im talking a 2"-3" one in a nano...

well, it sounds like you're going to go back to the berlin method and just rely on LR and skimmer. Pros: can have higher circulation. Cons: less nitifying bacteria. so, you will have to siphon the crap that settles manually--probably every week. also, it will be difficult to siphone out the detritus that settles under the rock. i ran a bare botton about 10 years or so ago and that was one of the main reasons i switched to a dsb. other than that, it is not as aesthetically pleasing. you will be able to see the top of your stand until the coraline starts to grow. all in all, it's really a matter of preference.

Considdering the fact that it is possible to have "higher circulation" in a bare bottom tank, it is more possible to be able to suspend any detritus that would otherwise settle on the bottom. Also, I believe that there will be less (de)nitrifying bacteria however, with more flow in the tank, waste, etc... will never have an opportunity to settle on the bottom of the tank thus, never having the need to "denitrify" bacteria. As for asthetics, it is all about preference. If waiting for coraline to cover the glass bottom is NOT your thing...try some pvc starboard... it's white and colors up nicely.

Your right, the only "downfall" is looks. If you don't mind the look then your laughing. You could always do a faux sandbed also.
