Thinking About A DWG But Don't Want Sand On Corals? Try This Fish!

Hi All,

I was looking at a Diamond Watchman Goby to keep my sand clean and aerated but read a lot of people saying they cover your corals with sand. I was at my LFS early last week talking to them about this and they had an Orange Marked (aka Orange Lined) Goby in stock. Never heard of this fish before. It doesn't get as big as a DWG, constantly sifts sand and never covers my corals. It also eats anything I put in the tank without issue. It also sifts all over the tank and is always out in the open. Great little fish!

THe yellow watchman is also much less of a sand-thrower. I've had them with plate coral with no problems.

I looked at one of them but have enough yellow in my tank, was looking or something different. Now that this guy is comfortable, he's regularly eating algae off the rocks as well. What a hard working little fish.

I love gobies but can't keep them alive :(

I had one go down the overflow, and 2 just disappear with completely covered tops. I can't bring myself to get any more.

I had a Citron Clown Goby that completely disappeared. Not in the rear sump or on the floor, I think something in the tank got him and he got eaten by the hermits.

Same experience. I recently blacked out my tank while fighting Dinoflagellates. He was eating fine before the blackout, afterwards, no where to be found. I checked every crevice with a flashlight and he just up and left apparently.

How does the orange lined goby compare to the diamond in size? Are they similar in temperament?

I have a YWG and he doesnt do s**t for the sand. He is super awesome and has a great personality my wife and kid LOVE him. But he just hangs out between some rocks towards the top of the tank with a pisitl shrimp. When i upgrade my tank to 65 im contemplating getting a Diamond BECAUSE they go through the sand, this guy may be another interesting option.
