Thinking about Swithing

I'm thinking about adding halides to my T 5 fixture, I have a couple questions,
1) what fixtures should I go with
2) is the a difference in performance between single vs double ended lights.

Thinking about taking out the 3 inside rolls of t5s and adding the halides there.
Also I will be adding a dimmable ballast to the remaining T5 so I can ramp up and down...

It is a lumenmax 3. I do not have a ballast.
