Thinking of anemone

Well, i am thinking of an anemone one day (probably early next year since that will be around the 8 month old tank mark as well as me getting more experiance along the way).

I also plan on upgrading my tank from a 20 gallon to something like a 40 gallon tank in the near future, probably next summer, thats one of the reasons why i want to start small because i dont want it to grow really big in a small tank.

At the moment it is a coral reef tank but when it comes time when i want to get an anemone i will sell all my corals so it will be a tank with 2 clownfish and an anemone with live rock.

Currently my tank is a 20 gallon, i got a brain coral, a candy cane frag, a torch coral frag, and some zoas. I also have 2 O. Clownfish. I do plan on going bare bottom one day since i want to have the cleanest tank possible, especially cause its a nano. It has a tunze nano skimmer, a hydor koralia 2 (which i will wrap some sponge or something over it and clean the sponge like 2-3 times a week) and if i need more flow i also have a MJ-600 and an MJ-1200 at my disposal.

My question is what anemone would be good for my tank and do anemones like pristine water like that of the berlin method tanks (which i plan on doing, high flow, lots of live rock, no sand, and heavy skimming) or do they like slightly dirty water? Do some like dirty some like clean etc. I wont get an anemone until im positive i can upgrade into a 40 gallon one day. Oh and as a final note, i dont care if my clowns host or not so i dont need a O. Clown hosting anemone.

I like condy anemones and carpet anemones the most although i have heard that carpets are hard to keep. But really i like all anemones, i thought that a torch coral and/or frogspawn will look like an anemone enough for me so i wouldnt get one but its not working, i really like anemones and want to try one out one day.

when you upgrade to the 40g do a 40g breeder and go with a haddoni carpet anemone. you can go bare bottom with these just use a 1 gallon ice cream jug filled with sand or reef rubble so it feel secure, that usually works. or you could do a BTA.

as for your current tank(20g) i wouldnt suggest any of the big nems, look into stichodactyla tapetum "mini" and "maxi". this are a small carpet anemone i believe gary has them???

heres my no longer existant nem tank(there were very few other small corals and such in it) its a 20g long with a 25g sump and 4 75w vho bulbs over it.

wow lol, nice carpet

Are they easy to take care of, i dont want to kill my first one... And can you get aquacultured ones? i kinda like small anemones better that those big carpets though lol.

i'll look into those smaller carpets you mentioned

I also probably wont be getting a 40b since i want a cube tank, i have a perfect spot at home that i want to put a cubic tank where you can view it from all 4 sides. it will be short though since i also want to be able to see top down.

They are easy to keep but you have to get a healthy one to start with which means lots of waiting and watching for one and researching companies, they also produce alot of waste it was a constant battle maintain low nitrates with my tank.

sadly you cant get them aquacultured but with BTAs you can get them aquaculture as well as the stichodactyla tapetum "mini".

that will be cool a 40g cube for four sided viewing.

sounds cool, will you have a tank build thread for that tank?

what are the anemones that you can get aquacultured and are slightly easy to find aquacultured?

I think i might go with a BTA or LTA since the mini carpets dont really appeal to me.

yeah id skip the condy they are big time fish eaters i lost a tomato clown to one. the clown had been hosting it for 3 and half months with no problems then i wake up to find it half in the nems mouth so the nem got a expensive meal.

id go with the BTA youll be happier with that.

BTA are much easier to keep imo. i have 2 in my 44, and they are very very happy. they do like clean water, but (again, imo) they seem to do better with stability and good light moreso than clean water...i am always fighting hair and cyano, so my water must be fairly dirty, prolly due to me overfeeding all the time.

i have a reef octopus nw-110 and 175w mh.

you can also get clones instead of wild caught, which is not only ecologically responsible, but they also tend to do better, especially if its your first one.

ok then, i'll get a BTA. Is karens rose anemones site any good? Like does it have good correct info? I will definately get a clone since i dont like taking stuff from the wild.
