thinking of making my 25 gallon cube a BTA-only tank

My 25 gallon cube is plumbed into a 20 gallon sump, and the inhabitants are currently doing well. I am hoping to move all the softies and LPS into another nanocube, and have this tank as a BTA-only tank, and maybe get a couple of onyx clowns from rod's reef ;)

I remember reading someone else on this forum making his tank into a black clowns/RBTA tank, but has anyone else ever done this? If so, pics please! :)

Any advice, comments/suggestions would be appreciated!

thanks!

Jamie

Hi Jamie, I think you have a pretty good idea brewing. For this to work, you would have to remove all your coral inhabitants out of your 25 unless you want to see them get stung. ;)

I have a 30 gallon custom cube with a BTA 9 inches in diameter in my tank. I am breaking the rules though because I have lots of other corals and a clam with it.

I am using a 150 watt Sunpod fixture at 14 Kelvins and my GBTA loves it. It has great color and full expansion. As for flow, I have around 400-500 gph of flow going.

What skimmer are you going to use?

I currently have a corallife superskimmer, which, after I finally cleaned it yesterday, has been working wonders for me! Still, though, what other type of skimmer do you recommend for a setup like the one i'm envisioning?

Oops, I forgot to mention something: I'm currently in school right now, but should be graduating in December, and hoping to move everything back up north to my parent's. I won't be setting up the tank til then ... In that case, do I still have to wait 6 months for the tank to stabilize? I'll definitely be moving everything up, including every drop of 25 gal display + 20 gallon sump water if necessary! lol I realize there's gonna be some die off, and so I'm not intending to add inhabitants to this tank til maybe a few weeks later.

Here is a picture of my 75 gallon RBTA and BTA species tank w/ hosting GSM pair.

wow, tdpercula, those are GORGEOUS roses! I especially love the deep colored one on the very right. How long have you had all of them for? Did you buy them that big or did they eventually grow that huge? Impressive

Started out as one and cloned the other ones. I had a crash and lost all of my GTBA and the largest RBTA. I currently have 3 in the tank now and one is getting ready to spilt. The largest one that was lost was around 11-12" long.
