this is a public service reminder... it all matters

I'm just kind of throwing this out there as a general reminder...

When it comes to the happiness, comfort and health of out critters, everything matters. Don't get lazy and fall into the habit of saying, "Eh, it's not really that big of a deal."

Now that the weather has warmed up, I haven't been running my closed loop as much (the pump adds noticeable heat to the tank). I thought to myself, "Eh, it's not that big of a deal... I've got plenty of flow from my return pump."

My tank has been going along, everyone doing well, but a few of the corals didn't seem to be doing quite as well as they had been doing a month ago. I didn't think much of it - they were still open and taking food, color was still good, etc, just not as open or as extended as they've been in the past.

Well earlier this week, thanks to a couple of cooler nights that allowed me to get the house cooled down, I've been running my CL more. After 2 days of this, my skimmer is pulling much nastier stuff out of the water and my elegance is looking MUCH better.

The thing that I didn't think about was that the flow from my return is very constant - 1 outlet, 1 direction, along the top of my tank. My CL has 4 outlets, all rotating for very random flow covering all parts of the tank. When the CL is off, stagnant or dead spots are very typical, and water quality suffers.

Good point Jackson. I used to get lazy from time to time as well, or thing that the tank could do without, but it can really show in your coral health whenever you take away part of your setup or maintenance

Summer is tough time as there is so much to do outside yard work etc. I was as guilty as every one neglecting everything. Good post Jackson.
