This is cruel

no surprise unfortunately... alot of fish only keepers overstock and crowd their tanks...

disgusting though, i will agree...

When that black tip gets a little bigger-

That's some good eating!

I used to catch, and eat those fishing on the Texas gulf Coast!

I could never eat a shark, their too amazing in my eyes.

I just don't get how ignorant someone could possibly be to think they could keep a shark, and even then a black tip. Maybe not the biggest of sharks but still, its inhumane for such a beautiful creature.

You all should get off your high horses. We all keep fish in our tanks that don't belong there. So just because this guy is a moron does not make you somehow more humane than he is.

What does this mean? I/most of us keep nothing in my/our tanks that does not belong there...so, yes, it does make us more humane...most of us consider our tank sizes, fsih size, growth rate etc BEFORE adding any new live stock...a few do not consider tank size, fish size, growth rate, etc. and that is why you end up with a black tip in a tank that is way too small...that is not cool...

Like I said, they're good eating.

It was ironic to see the O. Clowns, in the same tank as that Black Tip.

I've caught 5 and 6 foot black tips on the TX gulf coast. They do get big.

ignorant? many people keep sharks in proper conditions, blacktips included. for just about any fish out there you will find that most are kept in inproper conditions, compared to the few that are kept properly.

i dont see how keeping a shark (properly) is anymore inhumane than keeping a clownfish.

It was not as bad as I expected. I was thinking we'd see a 20inch shark in a 55 gallon.

In saying that I believe no creature we keep in an aquarium is better off than it is in the wild. The idea we are providing them food/protection (Which I'd argue we do not protect them as many get sick or beat to death, or give them their natural food source) is a BS standpoint. While we all keep fish we should not try and convince ourselves we are doing any of them any favors.

about 10yrs back we went fishing in the louisiana gulf coast and caught 3-4 sharks that was about 3ft long. kept and ate them. i'm not sure what kind they were, but they were probably undersize. we didnt know any better at the time.

I hear you are not supposed to eat Sharks.. but then again thats me listening to my wife who claims to know about all things related to nutrition. Why I even felt the need to share that I don't know.

Well said.

But my money is on that black tip dying sooner than later...

That's exactly what I mean, it may not be bad now, but when that shark gets to full size in that tank, I don't think that personally isn't right.

This guy is dumb yes, and keeping a shark in a 200 gallonish tank is worse than a clownfish by far. Clownfish live in a 2 foot cubed area their whole life for the most part. Pretty easy to replicate. And even if kept in a 10 gallon they will not be stressed or their life shortened. A shark however roams constantly and this species can get 6-8 foot easy (bigger than that tank). I don't know anyone who keeps clownfish in a tank too small that it will literally out grow it, I don't know if that is even possible. So yes it is a different story.

As for all of you who are saying no big deal its good eating, you are just as bad. It is not a good idea to eat sharks because they are a top predator on the reef and removing even one shark greatly impacts the food chain because they don't reproduce like other reef fish spewing thousands of eggs and sperm into the water frequently, they don't reproduce very often and when they do its a few pups at a time that take a long time to reach sexual maturity. So taking one out greatly influences the survival of the species as a whole.

Sharks are extremely important to the ecosystem and if you have ever been to a healthy reef you will see plenty of sharks. They aren't uncommon in areas that haven't been $%^&ed up by humans.

thinking the shark will eat everything in the tank eventually...hope it gets moved to a big tank asap...sad to see...but I have seen worse...my lfs has a massive grouper in a tiny tank..dont even think it can turn around...I have said something to the owner several times...and he says, "he only cares about eating..." ugh...have not been back in 2 years...

in the wld grouper have been known to back into caves and then grow so big they can't get out,as long as food is there they live fine..but as to the shark i hope the dude ends up on animal attraction as a victim... "hey watch me rub his belly..wait oww help!!!!" now picture a Monty Python scene where the knights fight and one gets his arm lopped off...blood spewing everywhere

While I agree that this guy is a moron, all of us keep something that belongs in the wild. So you all pretend you are somehow humane, but you are blinded by your own desires. I am too but at least I don't deny it.

I just asked my brother, he said the sharks we caught near the gulf were Sand Sharks.

NYAquatics has an 18" black tip for $1.5K

It's gotta be temporary, for the photo op. I'm thinking he caught it and wanted to make a photo session out of it and have people say "Wow" for a couple weeks, then put it back. That tank has too much to lose to a beast like that. Just a guess though.
