This is why thermometers suck.

3 different thermometers on the same tank at the same time. All way different. I am inclined to say the glass therm. is more accurate, which sucks since I just now put it on the tank, and had been going by the digital one that reads 3.2* lower than the glass one....... bah!

Thermometers are matched only by heaters in their inaccuracy. Between the two it's a wonder we can keep anything alive.

The glass one is probably more accurate so get rid of the digi that's giving the misreadings.

Are they all in the same area of the tank or could one be closer to higher flow, heater, differnet depth, light source?

I've used those digital ones before, not very reliable.

As an example: I can turn it on and get 78.2F, turn it off, turn it back on and get 80.8F

A simple glass one is fine enough for me. The one I have here is within 0.4F of the one I use in lab.

Actually its just the coralife ones.... absolute junk that should be removed from shelves. Its a shame they still sell it, its as good as trash.

I have a digital one I got from sharper image 4 years ago for a FW tank that records highs and lows each day. Has been accurate within .5 a degree of my glass floaters. Now I use it on my reef.

well as some one who use to callibrate gauges and thermometers for a living, even the most accurate ones are very inacurate. most thermomters are allowed to be off by 1% of their entire range. this means a thermometer that can read from -20 to 240 can be of by 2.6 degrees either way as still be in callibration, they are also allowed to take 10 minutes to reach the temperature they are measuring, so if your thermometers are off of each other by a couple degrees its no big deal.

The digital thermometers don't suck as much as the degrees that are shown on the top of the heaters. Why do they even bother putting those on there?

The put the numbers on the top to make us think we are setting the temperature. Of course when the thermostat on the heater fails in the on position, everything is fried. Get a ranco controller and sleep well.

I have this Coralife digi thermometer, a glass floater, and a Pinpoint Wireless Digital.... The Pinpoint and glass floater read usually identical, or within 1 degree.... Which also happens to be the temp that I have my heaters set to. The Coralife is a POS and reads about 3 deg. lower than my two heaters and two other thermometers.

I agree that this thing sucks, but I love my Pinpoint.
