This isn't a good day...

My LTA that I've cared for for over 15 years looks like he's on his way out.

He looked fine until recently so I'm trying to figure out what it could be but for now I've increased flow and moved him to the opposite side of the tank so the clowns lay off a bit. I'm actually guessing its the new LTA I added to fill in a large bare area near the clowns....I thought they could live together?!

I will be very very upset if he passes, he's been with me for so long....I just dont know what to do today. I'm not one to stick my hands in the tank whenever something looks disturbed so I'll just sit and wait.

I'd run some carbon after doing a water change. Sometimes anemones, even clones from the same specimen will do the chemical warfare thing. It may just be needing time to acclimate or if they are split up perhaps they will both do fine but chances are if thats the only change you made thats what is upsetting it.

One step ahead of you...I was just on my way out to get some carbon. He's looking a little better, but only slightly. I have faith he can pull through, its whether he wants to make it through.

He's been through a lot with me. I've stayed in the hobby because of him and my 15 year old A. Frenatus. If it weren't for them I probably wouldn't have a tank, which on a day like today seems like a better option....sheesh... plus I have family coming over so thats all I need are the kids pointing and laughing at the deflated and sad anem....

*heavy sigh*

I will never stop cheering for him to come back, so we'll see.

I'd run as much carbon as you can through a reactor.

I have some small sized lignite carbon you can use. Really really good stuff.

Cham, Thank you for the offer but unfortunately I don't have a carbon reactor on hand to put it into. I was going to go with some ChemiPure in the over flow unless you think the lignite would do better. I can swing by and purchase some from you. If you're not around today, do you know if they sell that stuff at the LFS's in the area?

I know anemones do have their ups and downs (well, inflations and waste expellings) but if you've had this one for so long you probably know it better than anyone could. I was just curious about the age of your bulbs and if you've run any tests for things like Phosphate.. Just in case.. If you have family who can visit and see the tank maybe something accidentally got put in?

Its probably just the new anemone but its always good to check all the basics just to rule everything out! Best of luck, and don't worry about a drooping anemone, just tell the kids it had a fight with the clownfish

The small size lignite is too small to run in a carbon bag or a overflow. You can only get it online as far as I know.

I'd recommend either Seachem Matrix carbon or Black Diamond. Not all carbon is made equal and both of those have proven to be very good at removing organic compounds and toxins from the water. They can be bought at any LFS.

Definately do the carbon, I agree with chrisstie that there could be a chemical war going on.

Family isn't here yet and he's been deflated for a day or two now. I usually let him "walk it off" but this time he decided to let go of his spot and move about. The clowns can be pretty ruthless to him, especially if he isn't inflating to his normal 12-14". I took the opportunity to move him a few feet away so the clowns can give him a little bit of a break so we'll see. I'll keep everyone posted as things progress.

He wasn't looking any better this morning and I'm not having a good feeling about it at all. He hasn't started to deteriorate at all, just very deflated. I will keep a close on him to make sure he doesn't foul anything in the tank should he take an even worse road. I did pick up a bunch of black diamond carbon yesterday and have been running a good deal of it in case something happen when I'm not home. So far nothing else in the tank is affected, including the small newer LTA.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed sinced I've been surprised before, but I'm also a reasonable person and....well...it's not looking good.

I was a mess during my family dinner we hosted yesterday....needless to say, I am very saddened by this. :-/
