This sucks... Jumping clownfish

Ok, so I just suffered my 3rd loss of a clownfish within the past 6 months. All 3 of them from jumping. The first two were the regular false perc. But I replaced them with two beautiful black and white false perc of which the large one just jumped. It was on my 54 corner with nothing on top.

I did reseach and didn't see anything about clownfish jumping. Is this normal?

Clown fish are not known for jumping .. but all fish can jump. I have found that new fish are more prone to "jumping" probably a result of being startled during there acclimation to captivity.

When I QT a new fish I wrap the outside of the Qt with some paper to give the fish a secure "cave" ... slowly lowering the paper over a week or so to give the fish time to get used to activity in the room .... might be worth a try.

Jumping may also be a result of incompatibity with other fish .. they might be fleeing an attack?

They've been in there for a good 6 get months. I got these guys at christmas. And the only other fish living with them is a flameback angel, which they get along with fine.

I didn't feed them last night (usually feed them daily) but there's been other times I got home after the light went out and they didn't jump.

And none of the clownfish I've had have jumped immediatly, it's always after a couple of months.

I had a clarkii jump out of my tank once. Clowns don't typically jump but it can happen especially if they're spooked. You might consider getting egg crate from HD or cover your tank. I ended up covering mine because of an over active Anthias that splashes water on my hardwood floor. Good luck.

I had a clown constantly jump. If there was hole he was going through it.
If your clown takes a pebble into the filter then you should be alarmed.
I agree with the "blackout" acclimation
My new tank will have the qt next to the tank, so the new addition can see where hes going.

Yeah I have eggcrate on my other tank, but it's SOOOOOO ugly. I really like the look of this one without the eggcrate. but I can't take losing another $60 fish.

I don't know what could have spooked him. I'm just so mad he jumped. He was such a cool fish.
