thoes m/h flood lights

well my dad told me that the light behing my house is a metal halide so i was wondering if i could use it on my frag tank its 175watt and my dad says their only 25bucks at homedepot, also they have a nice blue spectrum to it so i think it will be perfect o and will three of them be to much for a tank thats like 10 or so inches deep ? ill try to get some pics of the light tonight. thanks adrian

Mh lighting requires the specific bulb and spectrum you desire, as well as a ballast to power the bulb, any housing will work,

you can order electronic of magnetic ballast, and use the housing from home depot if you wish, however, most bulbs are halogen, i recommend a bulb made specifically for saltwater aquariums.

What is on there is the opposite of a reflector, it's designed to dispurse the light out upon your yard... So using that would be a great way to light your house with your halides. Not so much your tank.

Also it doesn't help much, becasue we would need to see the ballast, or get numbers from the ballast, as that can be halide or Hight pressure sodium, and either way, are you sure of the wattage of the bulb? If you've got a spare 175w bulb sitting around, the see if it'll fire it..?

either bulb works with the same ballast :p
