Thomas' 300 gallon build - 95% RC used purchases

This is the former 10x2x2 build thread I had already set-up. I felt I'd start over using more photos and sticking more on the build.

I thought I'd show the first 285 gallon tank I took down to go smaller in 2009

This the 150 gallon I went to as a crossroads, really just wanted out. Tired of everything.

That was until I saw the RC thread showing a 10'x2'x2' tank. I was back planning. I'd always wanted a long tank. Off Adam1980 and I went to Iowa to pick up the next project

I'll update the pictures very shortly

Now onto the delay. The 150 gallon above decided to leak on the floor, through the floor, through the basement seiling, onto the basement floor. I had to empty everything into Adam1980's tank and my wife's work's tank. I'm delayed now until I get the new tile work done.

The tile work should be done by 1/25/11. Then its finishing the tank build.

Current staus is the following;

Tank- I sanded the entire tank only to find a series of small scratches on the face. I'll be redoing the front first week of Feb. I am waiting on limestone tiles from Reef Aquaria Designs. I'll silicone these to the back and left side, including both overflows. I'm planning on making ledges also for monti's to grow. Tiles should ship this friday, per Joleen

Stand- Back from fabricators shop, painted and waiting on additional cross members. They were set every 24", but some have suggested that I go at least every 12". Being cautious, they are going in. I will be finishing the internal wiring and 2" foam inserts, between the "legs", middle of Feb. Oak Wrap end of Feb

AquaController Apex is here.

ASM G4X, with recric and gate valve mod's here, shown next to old G3.

Dual chamber calcium reactor, 6"x24" & 6"x18" chambers.

Sump- I was trying to pick up a 125 gallon tank as a sump, but it fell through at the last minute. So I'm using 2 55 gallon tanks linked togather as my sump and refugium.

Lights- Done and ready. 16 each T5's using various bulbs recommended by Grim.

Return pump- I'm going to try using two quietone 4000's. running low on cash for now.

Closed loops - Two CL using Darts and OM4's and one CL using Dolphin ampmaster 3000 on a constant flow.

ATO/Change set-up- Seeing as the basement ceiling is torn apart, I'm going to run a drain line and top off line from the laundry room to the stand. I'll plumb a "T" / valve set-up off the constant CL to pump water into drain line and then pump backup from basement. Should make water changes a 5 minute process. Top off will be a JBJ and little giant pump combo with 150 gallon tank hooked up to a Corallife RO/DI system.

more to come, suggestions VERY welcome!

Almost forgot. These are the items I've purchased off RC members thru the selling forum;

Tank
Lights
Skimmer
Calcium reactor
sumps

eBay items
Apex
450 lbs of live sand

Just to let people know that you can buy very good items and build your dream tank inexpensively

Same here, I would like to see 'what could have been' for me. I had to decide two months ago to go with 10x2x2 or 8x4x2, and I went the latter for more depth.

Okay, dang Adam! I've been working outside all summer, so very little got accomplished. Recently, purchased different lighting. Going to go with 5 150 watt metal halides using Radiums, reef optix 3 reflectors, and bluewave 7 dual ballasts. I'm going outside right now to finish the sanding on the outside of the tank. Looking for a used Reeflo Dart w/baldor motor, sold one and need to replace it. Basically waiting for October for the install, so settle down Adam, you'l be allowed to help!lol
