They are really cool but its a good idea so stay away from them.. they dont fair well in reef aquariums. They arent photosynthetic and rely completely on supplemental feedings and detritus. Unless you have a very large system I wouldnt get one. Trust me.. I made the mistake
the only reason i thought i would try a thorny oyster is the size of my system. he is under 250 MH lights but seems happy there. i actually think he is happier with the anemone on top of him.
i have only natural filtration with two large protein skimmers in the sump coming off the refusium. i dont supplemental feed except for cyclopeze once few weeks.
