I have been using Randy's 2 part cal/alk dosing system for a while now. I am running a 55 gal sps tank moderately stocked. Mostly medium sized frags. My question is for others using Randy's 2 part. How much are you dosing daily??? I have a Kangaroo 330 pump with the dual silicone tubing setup. I set the pump to 9. The directions say this should be about 3 mls/hr, 72 mls/day. But it doesn't seem to work out to that much. What are others with this pump using for settings?

On a side note, I seem to have trouble keeping my alk above 2.5 meq/L. Despite this my sps are pretty happy and growing relatively well. I am just trying to improve my system. Thanks in advance....

Fishdoc and Mr. Ugly,
what are you using for a dosing pump if any??? Thanks for the imput, I think I am going to increase my dose and see if my alk will stay closer to 3.5.

I'm dosing 300mls of each in a 75G (90G total) heavily populated SPS tank. Using an Aquamedic Dual Reef Dosing Pump.

I dose manually for the time being. Probably getting a Litermeter III but haven't decided yet:rolleyes:

I think for a medium stocked tank it is .5ml/g/day. So I have a light to medium load so I do 12 ml of both per day and it seems to work.

Do you guys really measure? I just pour some in every day.

Um...yes..that's fairly important IMO.

You need to do some frequent measurements at first IMO. Daily to see the alk drop, then drop to every other day, then weekly, then every other week. Try to come up with a daily alk (since this is the easiest to see a change on). Then use the calculator to find out how much. I drop about 2 dKh per day so the dose will be according to volume and demand. I use limewater to replace about 1 1/2 dKh per day and the rest is made up with the 2 part. At one time last summer I was dropping about 3 dKh per day.

I have drips set up with those cheapo Aqualifter pumps. I connect the pumps to timers that can drip down to 1 minute increments 8 times per day. If you dose a little many times throughout the day you're going to have better stability. I tested every day for the first month or so to find the drip rate. Now I test every week. The key is that I have to fill the reservoirs (alk, calc and mag) every week to make sure the pressure remains high or the drip rate will go down through the pump. I also run vinegar through the pumps once a month to make sure they don't clog. I've been doing this for over a year and it has worked great. And it's a very cheap solution.
