Thought this was a hitchicker sponge...?

Hello everyone. Thought I got a cool sponge coral for free on this live rock but now that I see pink sections spreading on the same rock I think my assumption needs reevaluating. What do think?

Looks like a typical encrusting, hitchhiker sponge. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts encroaching on corals. If you really want it out just scrape it off with a razor.

Just a sponge. Harmless little thing.
I don't think sponges are the same thing as corals.

Glad it doesn't look like anything to worry about. It'll be cool to turn that rock around every once in a while and see how it's grown.:bdaysmile:

Most sponge in my tank doesn't like the light. They're whites, yellows, oranges---rather nice variety. I had a blue webwork one in my last tank I really wish had survived the house move!
