I know they are not consider reef safe, but I see Regals, majestics and blue faces kept in reefs. Anyone ever try a Flagfin in a reef? Looking for something a little different. Narrowed my angels down to the Flagfin or Golden.

What size tank are we looking at and do you have either a very reputable LFS that will QT the fish for you or a good QT system of your own?

Do a search of the forum for flagfins and you should turn up some useful threads.

I love the flagfin but they can be destructive in a reef as can most any angel. What size is your tank, what tankmates will it have and what kind of corals do you keep. Flags are one of the more difficult angels and dont deal well with stress and/or competition in most cases. Once you get one eating and acclimated they usually do well but can hard to get them going. Getting a fish from outside the Philippines or Indonesia will increase your chances of getting a nice one. Some of the better origins are the Maldives and Fiji.

It will be the first and only angel in the tank, The new tank is not running yet. I had a Flagfin live for about 5 years in one of my older tanks until a power outage and I was away for vacation. Anyways the QT tank is a 65. The new tank is a 125, not stocked with anything yet. just live rock and a few zoas and shrooms that were on the rocks. The LFS is very good, I have 2 very good ones to choose from out of about 10. My last Flagfin was in a FOWLR tank that had softies and there were no problems. I wanna add SPS to the new tank and some of my LPS from my other tank.
