Personally I'm not trying to create a work of art, I'm trying to create a recognisable ecosystem. Yes I want the fish and the corals to look pretty and to a degree "หpop' but not to the point it looks artificial. So coralline algae growing on the back panel suits me, and I don't mind the small amounts of algae there for my YT and other fish to peck at. The sides and front I want clean, the back not really. I find this works well on a black background. Dark blue also looks very nice in other tanks I have seen posted.
So I'm afraid I'm not a fan of a white background.
