Thoughts on white background?

My vote: would have to be kept just as clean as the front; maintenance nightmare.

I only clean 2 of 4 panes... I let the others gro coraline. IMHO I dont like the first stages where you get green and red nuance algae. You will see that more with white backround.

It looks cool but yeah you'd have to really keep up on it. I just started scrapping off my back glass and it's a pain. I let algae grow on it but once a month I've been scrapping the coralline off I just got tired of looking at it. With the white you'd have to at least clean it weekly.

Personally I'm not trying to create a work of art, I'm trying to create a recognisable ecosystem. Yes I want the fish and the corals to look pretty and to a degree "˜pop' but not to the point it looks artificial. So coralline algae growing on the back panel suits me, and I don't mind the small amounts of algae there for my YT and other fish to peck at. The sides and front I want clean, the back not really. I find this works well on a black background. Dark blue also looks very nice in other tanks I have seen posted.

So I'm afraid I'm not a fan of a white background.

That comes out interesting and different.

I have a 'modern' room in my house where I was looking to put a tank, and I think the white would actually improve the look of the tank vs black.

Once coralline gets going, best to have bare glass so you can get a scraper to it, unless you like the 'hull of sunken ship' look, as spots of pink coralline overlap each other. Snails and other inverts will also provide it with black dots--themselves.

What I've been contemplating is mounting mirrors externally in a removable-for-cleaning mode (as in hanging from above) so as to reflect infinite reef.
