The Coral Kid
New member
Heyloo all you nutty reefers out there
i the coral kid is in a pickle of sorts
ive been maintaining the blank space of a 160 l / 39 us gal tank
for three years now
iv recently finished yet not hooked up my sump
and i have just bought a overflow box and about to purchase a new set of mh to replace the set that does not light the entire tank my tanks a metre long and my lighting covers only half of that adequetly :/
in the mean time i have some fairly un healthy looking corals that probably need some love care time and money spent on them
one fairly sad looking torch coral who has...greatly reduced his size from four nice big clusters to 1 midget midget cluster and 1 tiny cluster
and one leathery sort of thing that i dont even know the name of that is having a very hard time
one fox coral who is reasonably happy but not extending to her *full potential*
and a brown mushroom and neon green mushroom farm which breeds.... and breeds... photosyntesizes.. and breeds a little more
my clean up crew consists of...:
alot of limpits
i previously had two shrimp
they died under mysterious causes
very slowly probably over feeding
my ampipods are vicious and eat anything that wont eat them first ie zoos one entire coloney was eaten over 1 night
i have to try really hard to keep my system in balance because i cant run to my lfs and get a chemical say to bump up ph or lower litrates etc etc
im also considering purchasing over time a
bubble coral (cats eye)
plate coral (long tenticles)
a pair of clowns
and im thinking about an anemone but i think ill wait on that one
ill also post a pic of my skimmer and set up sort of thing so you can get the general gist of how crap a tank can be when you live a couple hundred miles away from any sort of reef shop
i run a eheim canister filter to give some water circ and cleaning
and i add calcium strontium iodide
my water is distilled so pretty much nothing but h2o and whatever they put in the red sea seasalt
HELP!!!
coral kid
Tank set up in basic form
berlin type
160l / 39 gallons main tank
39l / 10 gallons un hooked sump (ordered the overflow box)
un identified skimmer
eheim canister filter
fairly slow but well spread water flow
{metal halide of unknown wattage / kelvin} 5-6 hours
{two atinics of unknown wattage or type in general} 6-7 hours/overnight
these are being replaced with
36 inch sunpod 250 watt 14 k (x2) with moon leds
inhabitants include
hundreds of limpits
unhealty torch coral and unhealthy leather
content fox coral
Breeding like they have the place to them selves mushrooms neon green/brown
distilled water
redsea salt
calcium strontium iodide trace elements added
unfed growing brine shrimp as you read
anyway my torch is really not looking anything like the large amount of tenticles he previously posessed and id like to get it looking alot happier is it a good idea to put it in its own little box so that nothing can bother it or just leave it where it is and it will very slowly recover
and
my fox is quiet happy yet i havent seen her show her full potential for a while now any reason for this?
