Tiger tail cucumber

I like my cucumber. I have a black medusa looking one (forget the actual type)

I'm pretty sure I have a tiger tail as well but I haven't seen it in months.

I think issues are few and far between.

i have 8-10 tiger tails now(started with 2)and a big black turd lol a huge black cucumber roughly 16" long and 3" round, never had any issues for the last 2 years good cuc

Start off with two in my 120 DSB tank, they got busy, and now I have three. in my 7 years of reefing, I never have issues with it. They consume all the craps in the sand and poop out clean sad. can't get any better than that. a must have for your CUC IMO.

I have 2 in my 120. They are always eating dirty sand and poop cleaned (ironic?)pellets that easily disintegrate.

IME, sand mopping Holothuria cukes are pretty harmless and don't nuke tanks.
Even after having a big hole drilled into the side of one by a powerhead, nothing happened except that I ended up with two cukes.

I use and recommend them in all reeftanks.

does this species include the tiger tail?

just wondering should a sand sifting star be used in conjunction with a cucumber? i have a 90 gallon reef with a 4-5" deep sand bed..

Sand sifting stars will consume all the beneficial organisms that consume detritus in a sand bed and so are considered undesirable. They stir the stand as they hunt for prey, and that's about it. If you have a cucumber you won't need a sifting star.

Yup. tigertails are Holothuria cukes.

and yes, sand sifting stars have no place in a deep sand bed tank. It's the micro fauna that makes a DSB work and a sand star will keep it from functioning properly (or at all).
