Tilted clam

I put my clam directly into the sand bed. It did what I expected, it rotated and shifted a bit. But it is now tilted with one side of the clam deeper into the sand and the area with the foot isn't in the sand very much. Is this okay?

They will and can adjust themselves if they are not happy the way they are. I have 2 larger 8" clams in the sand and they tilt and move around a bit to adjust themselves.

what type of clam??

how big is he??

not familiar with the 85G ( assume it custom ), how deep is it??

what kelvin bulbs are you running??

can his mantle still receive full light??

with the smaller clams we usually place a small flat rock underneath for the clam to attach and some larger clams no longer rely on their foot.

Thanks for the replies,

The clam is about 5" across the widest part of the shell and is a Crocea.
Bulbs are 14,500k Giesemann and the clam is right underneath one getting full mantle exposure. The mantle is also extended very well. It just looks like it's getting closer and closer to being on the side of the shell.

Croceas prefer to be in the rock work and not in the sand. Can you move it up into the rock or place it on a rock . They also prefer a little more light than the other clams so being up in the rock is a plus for it. Its probably having a hard time trying to attach to something in the sand at this size. When they get larger like a4twenty mentioned they lose their foot like my Derrsa did and rely on their own weight to keep them in place. My corocea is a little larger sized and anchored to my rock the day I put it in the tank at 2" and has its foot pretty well attached to the rock. Its stayed put and attached for a few yrs and 2 tank moves to the same rock.

Ahh, Thanks.
My tank is a custom and only 21" deep so I'd like to keep the clam closer to the sand, I have some flat rocks in my sump to lay down for it to attach to. How big of a diameter should I use for the rock, will something like 4" be enough to keep it sturdy even when it gets larger?
