time for a MASSIVE upgrade . . . magnet cleaner

Have a tiny little mag float that is just too much work (especially for 3/8" glass). Is a $50 pirahna or $70 hammerhead really worth it?

Here's the deal with those floats.

My buddy has one, and it is so much better than a mag float it isn't even funny.

That being said..... I'm not dropping $50 on a friggin magnet cleaner for my fish tank lol.

I bust out my $5 long handled scraper and accomplish the same task in the same amount of time.

whoa! hold up there guy, I can't get caught cleaning my tank with such a low tech device!

there's a red planet acro at my lfs i'd much rather spend $50 on. the handle broke on my scraper, hence my interest in a replacement.

I felt the same way. Then I purchased a hammerhead. Yeah, it's worth it. Get some extra cleaning pads when you order....you wont ever regret it.

i just saw that actually. out the door with an extra set of pads for $50 with shipping. aquacave has 15% off magnivore cleaners too for about $50 out the door with shipping.

I believe that the Piranha is on sale or was at Marine Depot and Custom Aquatics something like 35 dollars

sweeeet! I need a new magnet cleaner anyway, so I may have to go with the Piranha... especially if they're only $35...

I have both the Hammer head and the Mag Flip. Between these two, I like the magflip better, because it is super low profile which enables me to get to places where the hammerhead wont go. Second, the scraper on the magflip is the BIG plus factor here. You see I dont even use the padded part on the magflip. The scraper works wonders. It cuts through everything, hard green algae, coraline etc,and when the blade gets worn out you can change it out with a new one. My Fowleri tang loves following me when I scrape off the algae. He loves gobbling up the stuff:D .With that being said, Im not sure if the magflip scraper would work well on acrylic tanks though. It might scratch it..

^^^ i want to know if magflip will work for acrylic. 50 bucks on a magnet cleaner??? hellz naw dawg. if anything diy for about 20. my magfloat makes me mad, but it does the job, needs a pad inbetween it and it may be better.
lowerclass reefing doesnt allow for such overpriced luxuries.

The magflip blade is a hard plastic. So it might work on acrylic. Just becareful not to drag any gravel..

pirahna does get better reviews, but i think a cheapo replacement scraper will have to do for now, I got a local reefer with torts and chalices i need to get in on :)
