Timeline for diseases in QT?

Is there a specific reason for a 4-8 week quarantine for a new fish? Specifically, is there some sort of timeline that you can go off of for certain diseases/parasites?

For example, in 7 days if no signs present you can rule flukes out. After two weeks if no signs you can rule ich out? I just made those numbers up but was curious if that information is out there.

No, it does not work that way. Lack of visible symptoms are not a reliable way of excluding and the minimum time line would be five weeks.

I agree ^^^. Also a lot of vendors and LFS use copper which masks other diseases. So when the fish is re-home to a place without copper, this is when other diseases will make themselves present. This could take a week or up to 5 weeks.

So if visible symptoms are not always present, at 5 weeks it would be safe to say the fish should be healthy? Or does your 5 weeks include preventative treatment?

I give a formalin bath, then TTM all fish and treat with Prazipro. Five weeks includes that.
