timer types

Hi Guys. I thuoghtI read somewhere that yuo can buy timers or control switches taht allow you to turn off the pumps for a given amount of time, say 20 - 30 minutes, ands they will turn everything back on.

Does anyone know about these or am I whacked (not that one necessarily has anything to do with the other.)

With something like this you'd have to wire in a relay after it, as those switches (as far as I know) are all made to turn ON for a set amount of time. What most people here are interested in is turnign something OFF for a few minutes and then automatically back on. But if youre familiar with switches and relays it should be straightforward - if not I can lend a hand.

PS - they make a whole line of different time ranges as well, and most likely there are similar products from other vendors.

You are probably thinking along the lines of a controller or a wavemaker if pumps only.

I purchased this timer/wavemaker setup from dr fostersmith. it works good if you like power heads in the tank.

I also have the SCWD in a close loop that also works ok, but sometimes the valve sticks in one position, wher you have to shutdown and restart to correct it.

I have the wavmaker, thx I just wanted to be able to turn off a power strip for 20 minutes and have it go back on automatically.

Buy a regular light timer that uses removable clips for "on" & "off". Remove the "off" clip, but leave the "on" in place. Now manually turn off the timer and set it to come on in about1/2 hour. The timer can be left in place because you removed the "off" clip, it won't shut off unless you do it manually. Cost- about $5.

aquacontrollers are cheap. buy one, you definately wont regret it.

Hah. you're right. But for all my aquacontroller does, the couple hundred bucks is sooooo worth it.

top off controller
heater controller
fan controller
emergency lights off w/ high heat.
wave maker
feed timer
fuge light controller
chiller controller.

and thats just off the top of my head. Not bad for $200.

I honestly dont see how anyone can run a successful reef tank without one.
