I have a couple of the standard rotary light timers on my system and lately they seem to be turning slower and slower. I have to reset them every day or they are an hour or so behind.

One is the Coralife Power Center which is supposedly made for aquarium use. They are both less than a year old. Are they just dirty or are the gears worn out or what?

I have the same problem with mine. I sometimes hear a clicking sound after they turn off for a minute or so and wonder if the clips are getting cought. After a week i lose about one hour on my timer. I am thinking about going with a digital unit to hopefully solve the problem.

Mine is doing the same thing on my freshwater tank. I think we should prob replace them :). I'm toooo cheap to do so, just keep resetting it.

When you replace them use the new digital timers. I picked up a couple from Target. Best thing is if the power goes out it keeps correct time and so your lighting and other schedules won't get all messed up.

i have a couple of the Coralife Power Centers and they do the same thing for me. they have also jammed in the "on" position and let the lights run all night long.

why do these aquarium equipment manufacturers all seem to produce such cheap junk?

We have had a lot of customers return the Coralife power strips for this and other reasons. IMO they are junk. Of course almost all dial timers will eventully slow down, but not nearly as quickly as these Coralife ones seem to.
