I've seen and obtained those same transparent yellow tunicates on pieces of live rock, and on rock attached to coral specimens before. I don't know how common they are in reef tanks besisides for my own experience with them.
The size of the tunicate colony you have is impressive! The ones I've had in my tank are a few small tunicates grouped together, and even single or sporadic tunicates on the same rock.
They seem to "come and go" depending on how much available food they have in my system.
