I have a little tank with Fiji and Haiti LR. Several times now I have seen something dart super-fast around the tank, just on the sand.
Some sort of hitch-hiker, but very small. All I've been able to catch are the reflective eyes and the really fast motion.
It's too fast for a little peppermint shrimp or mysis, and I know what pods look like, and it's not that. But I've yet to get either a good look or find the hole. BTW, it's red and about 1/2" long.
What could this be? I hope the red color rules out isopod, although I'm worried because I know I've seen the glowing big eyes. I've heard no snapping or tapping, but at that size I'm not sure I would. The thing not necessarily nocturnal. I've caught a glimpse 3-4 times in daytime, and twice now by flashlight.
Pistol? Tiny mantis? Isopod (please no)? Other HH? Any ideas?
One other piece of info: yesterday I found a molt of what looked like an amphipod, but very big -- 1/2" and not quite amphi. Plus it had some color--very slightly red and green. I have no idea if it's related to my little speed demon.
Any of this ring any bells as to what sneaky little creature I might have?
