tiny starfish appearing in my sump

I have added nothing new to my tank in almost a year. I do have a serpent star in my display, for about 2 years now. In the last month or so, I have noticed an outbreak of tiny (like 2-10 mm including legs, tiny) stars, and they look like miniature sepent stars. Strangely, I am seeing them ONLY in the return section of my sump. The harder I look, the more I keep seeing, guessing maybe 50-100 of these guys. Anyone have any idea where they came from?

Live rock hitchikers. I have them all over in my tanks. You won't see as many in the display because of all the fish swimming around. Google micro brittle stars. You can make them come out if you add some food and cut the flow while you feed, I see a lot of them when I do this.
