tiny starfish

I have noticed these tiny 4 legged what to me look like starfish in tank, they seem to come out of lr an live in it what are they. good or bad

Could be a asterina starfish, there are a few kinds. Mine have 7 feet, they mulitply very quickly.

are they a problem? I never put in tank were do they come from?

I have tons.
No problems here with them.
They will usually come out at night.

They come in on live rock

Most likely asterina. Very common hitchhiker. They will range from 1 leg to 7ish. To multiply the just drop a leg off to form a new starfish. Heres a picture so you can make sure. Most are harmless aglae grazers. Some, very few, are known to munch on coralline, zoanthids, and other corals. I have hundreds of them scattered throughout my tanks. I feed them to my harlequins.

mine are much thinner, the legs are like the thickness of threads

I about 50 of those little starfishes in my live rock. Brittle starfishes I think. Started with one (that I could see) and now I have about 50. I hope that they are harmless otherwise I'll be in trouble. They multiplied REALLY fast in my tank. I haven't seen any adverse reactions so far

Yep baby brittle stars, I have thousands! in my tanks.
They are very good.

i have had tons of them until they get very very big they don't cause any problem...fun to stare at!

I see a lot of those in the fuge crawling around in the chaeto. Harmless lil' brittle stars.

The baby brittle stars will not grow to the full size when you think of a normal brittle star.

These will prolly never get bigger then about a quarter.

my baby brittles got way over a quarter but never the size of my full sized brittle star..but he was huge!

You're right, we do report that!! We tend to do that over anything that is tiny.
