tiny white snales

At night after all the lights go out very small white snales come out in great numbers, like hundreds of them. They are very small and have a long pointy shell, there all over the place. good snales? bad snales? If they are a problem is there something that eats them or gets rid of them or are they o.k. and just let them be?

Do you have the picture? I have tons of small white snails (no shell ... at least not at this stage of development) that come out in my overflow area once the lights come off. I'm pretty sure they're just those "stoma...." I can't remember the name. The white slug looking things that I hear are harmless.

Triple J, maybe you have the same.

I have a bunch of those - I see them on my snails, even small 1/4" small snails are attacked by these - here is a pic of one on a larger snail, and another next to a grain of rice

Any idea on how to get rid of them? - I was thinking a small wrasse like a six-line or something similar.... :(

Read this, good luck, they're not that hard to get rid of.

Natural predators of Pyramid snails include several species of wrasse within the genus of Halichoeres and Pseudocheilinus. A few of the more popular species that are reportedly very efficient at controlling these snails are; Six and Eight Lined Wrasse (P. hexataenia and P. octotaenia), and the Green Wrasse (H. chloropterus).

Thanks all. They do look alot like the snails on the dime, never seen any on my other snails or on my clam though. I have a six line wrass, maybe he just can't keep up with the rate they multiply. I'm having trouble with downloading pics, can't seem to be able to figure out how to get photos the right size to post

I have some tiny round snails in my tack that comes out at night. What kind of snails are my round ones. I see these are long type.

Are they killing anything? You say they attack others in the tank but are they actually attacking or just crawling over others in the tank? Do you have any snails in the tank that you added on purpose? They could be baby snails of one of your larger snails. I have baby Cerith snails that are exactly like yours.

Sullyman - - guess I'll be picking up a six-line ;)

thanks for the advice

I have a few of those - they repoduce in captivity (I have tons now) and are great algae eaters - great to have in a tank - they have a brown spiral pattern, but have a smooth shell rather than the rough textured pattern of the sundial snail in the picture from the last post

The snails i have pictured above only attached where they appear in the picture (near the shell opening) - and nowhere else on the snail - I thought this may be for protection, but they locate in this area even on my small 1/4" snails (so they are still exposed) - which is pyrillamid behavior
