Just got my first load of live rock. 110lbs. for a 90gal. with 15 gal sump. Its very fresh. Ammonia is very high. I plan to do a 20 gal. water change and pluck the dead material. Is there anything I should look out for on the rock that should be removed. any advise would be appreciated...

Anything that turned blackish, that is usually dead. And don't forget to flush out gunk out of pores and holes with turkey baster.
Then just before you put it back (where you cure them) put them one by one in a bucket with SW and swish them.

Frequent water changes of 25 - 50% will help bringing your ammonia levels down, so is vigorous skimming!

BTW: How do you like the smell? :D

good luck!
