Like post mentions. The tips on all 6 of my acros are completely white, after blasting off the brown diatoms build up there. Wondering why they are dying and what i can do to stop this from happening!
I have had the tank for almost 2 years now, and some of these acros for more than a year, never any trouble. I have kept up on maintenance, 15-20 gallon water change every week on a 150 total system, 90 G display. Ammo nitrites/ nitrates and phosphates all at zero, i skim very wet on an oversized skimmer.
I dose with homemade alkalinity and calcium, supplement with reef solutions.
The changes made recently:
Ran out of reef solution, switched to Combo Vital.
Made change in lighting. Felt that i didnt have enough power with my 6x 54w T5HO, two actinics, two blue+, one 6700k, one 10,000k. Over a month and a half period, i switched to 3 10,000k, one blue+ and two actinic.
I notice now that there is flesh dying at both ends, top and bottom of some of the accros. Could Light change have done this??!
There may have been a period of high nitrates, as homemade phyto was added without decanting the heavy nitrate water first, but other than that no nutrient loading!
Please help! i can include pictures if necessary thanks, i just want to get these corals healthy again.
