Titanium temp probe for Ranco

I was looking for the same thing.... good reliable heater elements for that controller...

Mines not covered by anything but the silicon I added. Its not a water proof probe but the silicone is very effective at water proofing it.

Is the silicone layer really thin? I'd love to know how you coated it. I can imagine sticking the probe in a container of silicone, rotating it, and pulling it out...

you can buy "thermal well's" for the probes from the ETC website. there made to put the probe in for a water tight seal but still get an accurate temp. reading. i recently bought the ranco controller that came with it.

I've heard of that, but was afraid of the accuracy. I'm glad to hear you get an accurate reading - thanks!

I just put silicon on the probe and spread it with my finger. I'm sure it takes the probe longer to register changes in temperature due to the added insulation but it is still effective. I've been running it for three years and now its in my 20 gallon and keeps the temperature perfectly stable. If I did it over I might try to use heat shrink wrap. That might also work well. I got mine on eBay. They are available in the HVAC trade.

Thanks again for the info, SoFloReefer!

No problem. Also wanted to say that my Ranco Dual Stage is one of the best pieces of equipment I've bought in this hobby. It is very reliable and versatile. Even with retail mark up they are a good deal but they can be had much cheaper.

look up ranco and then add your controller number . they will be very helpful as i just ordered one pre wired for a chiller . it was only $59 and they wired it for me . they sell the probes separately if you need them and they will email you within a day too .
