tmc aquaray bars LEDs

Becareful what you read online. A distributor of TMC, Carl & Steve, create fake blogs (aquarium-digest, fish-as-pets, aquariumopinions) and produce false claims about LED companies competing against TMC. And it's not just on their blogs, they post this disinformation on various forums (including RC) and on other reefers blogs in the comment sections. Fair reviews are great, affiliation and bias for one company all while constructing baseless opinions and presenting them as fact against competitors is not a good look.

Sad but true. They have even quoted me and other forum members in their blogs and used our comments here to defame us. In doing so without permission, they have engaged in copyright infringement as Reef Central and it's content has copyright disclaimers all over it.

Sadly, they provide decent service on the TMC products but their tactics are less than honorable and because of that, I think they do TMC a disservice. They could have had powerful allies on this forum but instead they turned many here against the TMC brand including several industry professionals.

I don't have to deal with that BS down here in NZ luckily, although I did come across it while doing my research before I imported my TMC lights from the UK (they are not available here).

I have found TMC tile lights to work very well with respect to coral growth etc. but have not tried the light bars and have not had them running long enough (only 7 months) to comment on longevity. They are a low powered light which means you will need more of them but in my case I found this to be a plus as I could spread them out to avoid shadowing. I am also able to run them at 100% (don’t think this is 100% drive for the LEDS, just for the units).

I use the TMC Aquaray Multi Control 8 controllers as well and have found them to be quite susceptible to electrical interference from other tank devices. This caused them to lose their clock data and get out of time. Moving them to a different circuit fixed that but I probably should have worked out what was putting that crap back into the lines. They are pretty clunky and basic controllers anyway and I now only use them to provide the PWM dimming to the lights with all control being handled from my Profilux via 1-10V.

So far I have not had any power supply issues, which I have read about, but then I am using the large power supplies that came with the controllers and not the small ones that came with the lights.

When you are standing near the tank you can hear a bit of high pitched whistling from the PWM when the lights are dimmed. This may or may not be a nuisance but, on the other hand, there are no fans to listen to.
