To kill or not to kill!

I am having a problem with one of my aussie acans after it was fragged it developed a dark blue sponge all the way around it not allowing it to grow. I would love to remove it, my only problem is if I remove it is it going to pollute the acan and kill it or will everything be fine.

Lastly, if I can kill it how would i do it. I have heard that if you pull it out of water it will then start the process.

1 remove the acan from the tank
2 then fill a cup with water
3 put acan in cup
4 take acan back out when u have something to remove the 5 spong with

5 remove the spong
6 swish acan rock in the cup
7 put acan back in the tank
