to loop or not to loop

I'm drilling my 120 tommorow afternoon and i cannot decide if i'm going to drill for a closed loop. I'm going to add 4 bulkheads for the horizontal overflow about 9 inches apart. If i drill for the closed loop the plumbing is going to be really tight and i'm gonna have a hard time sueezing the ball valves and pump under the stand. hard to describe the problem, but i just can't decide if it's worth it. anyone with a 120 out there have or not have a closed loop and have any feedback? If i don't do the closed loop i will probably throw a couple old MJ's in for now with so Hydor flo's until i can afford some tunze's. thanks for any opinions, sometimes i just can't think for myself.

following some of your threads, your thinking about placing waveobx too noh? there aremany ways to improve/increase circulation, close loop is just one of them. I love my sea swirls, I was also looking into wavy seas. Hyodr flos get stuck way to easily, & soaking in vinegar every two months gets old. if your starting a tank, & just getting frags like I did, you have time to save up for Tunzes. MJ mods are cool too, have you look into Hydor Koralias? way cheaper than tunzes.

good luck. awsome work so far SCott!

I am considering the wavebox, i think i'm gonna skip out on the closed loop. I love the idea of not having any powerheads, but it's gonna be a mess trying to get the closed loop to fit right. I haven't seen the Koralias, i'll check them out. thanks

I decided against it on my new tank. The newer powerheads put out so much GPH that it's easier not to do it.

plus you could hide me in the back corner of that tank and no one would notice me. Thanks for the input, i was hoping no one would push for the closed loop because i was dreading the plumbing. I checked out the Koralias, look like a very good possibility considering i would have to sell my car to buy tunzes.

Years past I would have done a closed loop, but with the pumps out these days, I would go with some MJ mods for the fixed position flow, and go with a Seaswirl or Wavysea on the return back from the sump for some random flow.
