i agree with reefscape some people cannot live without metal halides. i would like to ask him this if he had to chose between the fixture on e bay or the the fixture from reef geek , and he couldnt rewire the fixture with new ballasts , which fixture would he chose ?

HAHA! I'd definately avoid taking anything electrical off of ebay. You never know if someone got into it and tried to do anything to it untill it's too late and your stuck with a POS. I had 96watt T-5's and they were great for my 20gal, but when i got my 54gal corner bow it was obvious that i needed something greater so i added 250watt MH 20k and i'm completely in love with it!

I think an ATI T5 fixture would probably be the best bet for T5s, but they cost a pretty penny. If the OP were to go with an SLS tek light, I would definitely suggest at least a 6 bulb, if not the 8 bulb fixture.

Wow, lighting a tank can be confusing.

Someone pointed out earlier the power cost of running that 716 watt light which I didn't consider. I'm still trying to get my wife to enjoy this hobby with me and I don't think a $50 increase in our electric bill would accomplish that.

I am thinking about going with T5 lights. Would this light that I posted earlier allow me to keep a wide range of corals? Like I said before I am not really sure what type of corals I want yet but I would hate to limit myself by choosing the wrong type or wattage of light.
