To setup or not to set up, that is the question...

So, I have a 280 leak testing in my garage right now. Have sump, pumps, skimmer, etc. just hooked up 150gpd 5 stage RODI, so ready to go. Picked up a couple of 160w maxspects from BRS and just about ready to fill. There is a 98% chance I will be moving next late spring to summer and the distance of the move will be about 3-4 hours drive. My plans for the next house is to get a little bigger tank and maybe DIY this one into a sump. Would you set this one up now to get things brewing?

I would take the time to plan what you would want to do in your next tank. Having to move everything all filled up will be a real pain.

Then again, I cold set it up as a FOWLR tank and sell off the fish before I move and start a reef at the new place wherever it may be...:hammer: that way I can get my dose of coral eating fish out of the way. Lol

You could also use the tank to cook a bunch of rock at the same time. Personally, I'd wait and start looking for deals on toys...:D

That was my thought on the fowlr tank, to mature the rock and sand. If I am doing that, why not add a few triggers and such. Or I can just cook a butt load of rock in the garage. Hard call cuz I didn't say 100% move. Prolly 98% and the move would either be 3-4 hours drive away or 30 minute drive away. I love are current house, lots of land, lots of oaks, lots of Cypress trees. Big pond... Too "kuntry" for the wife even though we are 5 minutes from a mall. :spin2:

do you know the layout of your next house? imo, i honestly would wait because if your new house has space for a fish room, then it would be beneficial to wait and plan out everything.

Nope, I plan on getting a bigger tank for the next house and of course won't purchase until we buy "x" house. Since i already have this one, it'll just kill me to see this 280 I already have sitting in my garage for a year not set up. I have everything I need for it except rock and sand.

A 3-4 hour drive can be an eternity for livestock. While yeah you can do it. You really need to have something set up ready to put it in the minute you get there. For me, I wouldn't do it. Especially with a 98% chance to move in 9 months.

Just wait, if you really want a tank set somehing small up. Later you can use that smaller tank as your QT tank for your large tank. Moving a fully stocked 250+ gallon tank takes a day. Moving a small 40 breeder or 55 wouldn't be that hard if you are moving all your other furniture also.

I just setup a freshwater 57 gallon in my son's room, and a 10 gallon in there as well...:bounce3: Must have salt! Lol, I think I will just do a FOWLR out of it and gripe about it when I have to move it. I'll sell the aggressive fish and have a jump start on a several hundred pounds of live rock.:fun2::hammer:
